FragPunk is a fast-paced 5v5 hero shooter video game developed by Bad Guitar Studio and published by NetEase. The game was officially released on March 6, 2025, for Windows on Steam and Epic Games Store. FragPunk is offered as a free-to-play game and follows the games as a service model.
Gameplay
FragPunk blends sci-fi and cyberpunk themes with fast-paced gunplay. The game features:
- 13 playable characters called Lancers at launch, each with unique abilities and ultimate moves
- A Shard Card system with over 100 cards that can alter gameplay mechanics and environments
- 7 maps and 7 main game modes, including core modes like Shard Clash and arcade modes like Outbreak and Duel Master
The main gameplay mode, Shard Clash, involves two teams of five players competing to plant or defuse bombs at specific sites. Between rounds, teams can spend points to use Shard Cards, which introduce various effects ranging from regenerative healing to removing all doors in a level.
Unique Features
The most distinctive aspect of FragPunk is its Shard Card system, which adds an element of unpredictability to each match. Some notable cards include:
- World Flip: Turns the map upside down, making players walk on ceilings
- Environmental cards: Alter map conditions with effects like rain, fog, or ice
- Big Head and Small Head: Change character head sizes, affecting headshot probabilities
The game also features interactive elements on maps, such as slot machines that can drop weapons or gold coins.
Development and Release
FragPunk was developed by Bad Guitar Studio, which grew from a team of 4 to over 100 members during the project. The game went through closed alpha and beta testing phases in 2024 before its official release in March 2025.
While the PC version was released as scheduled, the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S versions were delayed due to technical challenges. Cross-play functionality is planned once the console versions are released.
